Good Parenting Trumps Technology Every Time! Remember the days when you went to the playground with your child, remaining vigilant as she climbed the monkey bars? Now her playground is the internet and no amount of watching on your part will guarantee her total safety. Pulling the plug won’t work. Young people today depend upon their cellphones and computers. Your child is living in a social media world and, like it or not, so are you! What do you do? Charlene C. Giannetti has been writing about young adolescents and teens for more than 15 years. The co-author of eight books for parents, she has criss-crossed the country delivering straightforward, sensible advice about technology and social media. She now writes about parenting issues for Woman Around Town, an award-winning website for women in New York and Washington, D.C. Parenting in a Social Media World brings together her best columns advising how parents can use social media to create teachable moments with their children. Technology is changing the world but the basic tenets of good parenting remain the same.
Parenting In A Social Media World eBook Charlene C Giannetti
As a middle school counselor I know firsthand how easy it is for young adults to wreck havoc on others as well as on themselves when using social media. When upset, students often post nasty messages that they'd never say over the phone or in person. They often regret doing so but once it's posted online or sent via text message, it's too late. I'm actually glad that I was born before the social media boom because I'm certain that I would have gotten myself into trouble, considering what an impulsive teenager I was, and many parents agree with me. However, as Giannetti points out, "your child is living in a social media world and, like it or not, so are you." Fortunately, rather than taking your child's smart phone until their high school graduation and/or watching them like a hawk every time they utilize the internet, Giannetti offers reasonable tips for parents. "Parenting In A Social Media World" explores the negative impact of the social media world but also the positive, teachable moments of social media. I would recommend this book to parents, teachers, counselors, and anyone else who interacts with children.Product details
