I picked this book up when it was offered as a kindle freebie about a week ago. I wasn't really sure what to expect from it, but I was soon caught up in the mystery of it, that kind of paranormal feel of otherworldly and powerful forces at play. Add in some time travel, some sexy capture theme; combine all that with a dark and delicious hero, and I was really enjoying this story. I read it in one afternoon, unable to put it down until I found out how exactly this hero would keep his woman with him forever.This hero is my kind of man: harsh, even barbarian, dominating and forceful, dark and not perfect. He's a brutal warlord, so he's not going to be politically correct and ask if he may please hold your hand. No, his hand will find its way under your skirt, whether you gave persmission or not. You just might find your clothes ripped off, too. He is from a time when men dominated and women were captured and thrown over shoulders, and then onto beds, or in this case, furs. He's hot and he's raw, not polished or smooth, just all rugged male.
The sex was completely erotic, with the subjugation and domination I love. Arystan is animalistic in his endeavors, pounding away hard, even licking and biting during sex. It's forceful and powerful, and so hot to me. I have a kinky soft spot for forced submission and coercion, and to see Sara at his mercy, Sara the new sex slave added to the camp, and soon to be the warlord's pick for the night, that was a turn-on to read. If you're into reading forced submission/forced seduction and that whole captured sex slave thing, which I personally love, you'll enjoy Arystan taking control of Sara, having her because he wanted her and it was his right.
As for the heroine, although captured and forced, Sara is strong in her own way. She's challenged by unknown, spirtual forces, one of which manipulates her and thrusts her from the present and back to this warlord's time. Here, she is tested by the harshness of her primitive surroundings, all the while unsure of her past and where she is from. She is even subject to the jealous intentions of Arystan's ex-lover, but Sara's biggest challenge is conquering this hard man and making him love her. And even as she does this, there is still that evil force at work, controlling and manipulating situations, time and place.
I was surprised by how tightly written and well edited this story was, by how creative and original it felt; the author pulled me into the story from page one, from that first scene of Sara waking alone in the dark in an unknown place, having been abducted and about to be put to her first test. From there, I kept reading, eager to see this heroine survive and fight. And once I met the hero, there was no going back. I was under his control and ready to see him be gentled with love. A very satisfying read, with plenty of story, intrigue and heat to hold my interest, but it was really that sexy, dominating hero who held me captive.

I really loved this book. It had adventure, drama and really hot love sciences. I am definitely going to read more stories by this author. Her character came to life for me. The writing style makes you feel as if you are there witnessing their life's.
I have read this book many times as a testament of how much I love it!!

It started a little crazy and I was not really expecting the beginning. But after the slow and somewhat weird start, everything started to make sense. I guess that I just had to get used to the writing as this was my first book from this author. All in all I liked it and it was an enjoyable read. Looking forward to reading something else from this author.
Ok I was getting so tired of week sappy male leads and bossy whiny female leads. This book put my faith back in reading romance again. It had a brilliant story line that kept me wanting more and more. The charters were strong loyal and most of all SMART. Haven't read many books where the main characters were actually intelligent it was refreshing.
I liked this story because it made me think what is my greatest fear and desire? Would I pass if tested? Though I'd like to think I would, but who really knows. I enjoyed the build up of the characters and how they grew as the story progressed and the explanations of why they were that way to begin with. Well written I'd reread this book.
Sara, an archeology student, wakes up in a dark chamber and doesn't remember how she got there. A mist like spirit appears before her and tells her that she will be faced with three tests conquer her worst fear or die, forgo her greatest desire or die and escape the chamber or die. The first part of the story was slow but it was good.
The second half of the book deals with war between Arystan and General Bayuan. The mist sends Sara to this period in time and suppresses her memories. Sara is captured, drug and prepped to be offered to in a festival of celebration for Arystan and his men. The author portrays Arystan as this brutal warlord who takes the captured woman has sex with them to the point were he physically injuries them and possibly even kills them without a second thought. The author describes Arystan as a rapist and then goes on to say that Arystan wants to "rape her mouth with his tongue." That was a complete turn off for me and i lost interest. I didn't think the author could redeem Arystan and successfully develop a romance between Sara and Arystan. I must admit the first time I read this story I didn't like it because I read during lunch (big mistake) and wasn't able to give the story my full attention.
The second time I read the story, my review of the story completely changed because I read the book at home, with undivided attention and with the ability to blush in private. I still feel like Arystan's character fell short from turning from villain to hero/romantic lead.
The sex scenes are so intricate. The author definitely walks that fine line and it maybe too much, too graphic for some readers. For me the author created perfect written imaginary. It was like I was a fly on the wall. She nailed it.
Would I recommend this story? Yes. Warning this book contains graphic, hot, sex scenes
